I work at a local Dunkin' Donuts and it is now winter and we have less customers and business is slow. My manager is a 23 year old girl who thinks her stuff doesn't stink and is extremely conceited. We had a staff meeting on Tuesday night and we were all told that the morning shift was getting a lot of our hours cut. The manager told us that she would rotate one week this one will get so many hours and then this one so on and so on. Two of the girls who work with me have gotten the most hours the past two weeks and my hours have steadily declined. I am a humble person who does her job and never calls in. I am always on time and usually come in if I am called to do so. Now wouldn't if you were in the managers position give the reliable worker the hours? I don't understand and was wondering if anyone has any different perspectives for me to comprehend this. I don't smell bad and am not rude to the customers. I just don't know why I am not getting the hours...? help?

I think you should look for another job. If you are as reliable as you say, then any employer would be happy to have you. One thing I have learned over the years is that especially in the business world, people only care about themselves and what they perceive is best for them. They don't give a dam about you, except to the extent that you help them achieve what they want. Otherwise you could just as well go jump in a lake for all they care.

You stated that the manager said the hours were going to rotate for all of the day-shift employees.. Ask her when is "your week". Also, ask her if she has any feedback regarding you performing your job duties, because you noticed additional cuts in your schedule, despite your commitment to the job (timeliness, availability and reliability).

She may not necessarily react well to your inquiries, but it is possible she has a valid reason for the change in hours.

Otherwise, as mentioned before, you may want to look into a new job as well.

Ask your manager for more hours, politely, since she has issues. It may be that she is favoring the other employees and you will just be the loser. This does happen and life isn't fair.

Even if you get a few more hours, is it enough to meet your expenses? I suggest finding another job, if at all possible - say Starbucks or Subway, or such.

Maybe you dress scantily clad and the manager is jealous. Women hate more attractive women (except celebrities). Walk a half mile down the road and work at another dunkin donuts.
