If you really do have a fluid build up in your knee get to your doctor. It most likely will need to be drained. This is something that can be done in the doctors office. It doesn't hurt. It's just a prick you feel. But trust me once the liquid is drained your knee will feel much better.
Now if its not fluid build up and instead you are tearing your cartilage or tendon while you are running it might be tissue build up. They can also remove the tissue build up with a minor procedure.
Trust me if you have a build up on your knee - don't wait to see the doctor. This build can lead to serious knee issues in the future. Go see your doctor please.
Oh yeah - stop all exercising until you get your knee examined.
God Bless from the Queen of Knee Issues!

Use a Stairmaster while it recovers. Lower impact on the knee, no use aggravating the injury. Use Rest, Ice, and Compression, and Raise it up on a pillow when you rest, take Tylenol for swelling.

The first time you notice pain in your knees is the signal for you to get new running shoes. I run marathons and understand the pain. Stop running until you can get new shoes...and keep popping the Advil.
Keep it up.
