I think too many teams get in the playoffs but it's just the way it's set up.The Giants did not deserve to be in it but still they made it.It's all for the money anyways all the beer companies and tv staions make more money for the more playoff games there are.

That will never happen. The main reason for having divisions is to preserve long standing rivalries, such as Bears/Packers, Dolphins/Bills, Cowboys/Redskins, Giants/Eagles, Saints/Falcons....I could go on. If the conferences and divisions were combined into one big round robin league, then those rivalries would be lost. If you argue that they could keep the rivalries that each team currently has, then effectively you would have unofficial divisions anyway.
Also the league uses divisions for regional interests. If a team like San Fran had all of its away games on the east coast, most SF fans wouldn't make that trip. The league is about making money and appealing to a mass audience.
Also the combining of the AFC and NFC and doing away with the divisions wouldn't ensure that the best 12 or 8 teams get in anyway. A team like the NY Giants could still benefit from a weaker schedule and go 10-6 one year when their schedule was filled with cupcakes and injury-riddled teams. The system is fine the way it is.

I think this is a different but not really feasible idea...I would not want to see the NFL with out the divisions or conferences personally. This is the traditional way all sports in North America have been for years and I think it would destroy alot of the rivalries that have been formed because of the divisions. I am a die-hard Redskins fan and in the situation you are talking about the Redskins would only play the Cowboys or Giants or Eagles every few years. Also, Think about this....would you say that the Steelers didn't deserve to be in the playoffs last season? They were the #6 seed in the AFC and had the 10th best record in the NFL....so they would have been out of the playoffs. This would cripple these rivalries. Just my thoughts though.

One sports talking head had the idea of keeping the conferences and divisions as they are now but change the playoff structure. The playoff structure would be the same except that the wildcard teams would consist of the teams with the best records from both conferences combined instead of from their respective conferences. I think under this scenario the Giants and Cowgirls would have been out of the playoffs and Cincy and Denver would have taken there place.
As for me I say leave it as is.

If you're not living in Europe, then move there! Your idea to combine the NFC and AFC is ridiculous. Granted, the divisions need some mix-ups and revamping... but to combine them and make it only an 8 team playoff is just ludacris. I'd rather shoot myself in the foot with a 22.

I definitely think the NFL should keep the conferences and divisions. It is the same basic set up as high school and college football. The winner for each major area goes to the playoffs to play against the winners from other major areas. The best from each division rises to the top.

The NFL format is fine. The divisions are full with historic rivalries that should never be broken up.
Simply put the NFL as too much history with their current format.
Your idea would be good for a league just starting.

they should have a bowl system. all 32 teams would be ranked on the strenght of the 4 preseaon games, then they will have 16 bowl games, end of season.

Things are great the way they are!
You would no longer have great division rivalries anymore (they play each other twice a year now. Your way it won't happen)
