First off it depends on how old you are. As people age, they tend to get more nearsighted. Once you reach your mid-20's or so your vision should stabilize and generally not get any worse. Of course once you get close to 40 then you're probably going to begin to get farsighted which is a whole different story.

As for stabilizing your eyesight, you should do everything to prevent eyestrain. Wearing the correct prescription glasses or contact lenses will help prevent strain. Another thing is to give your eyes breaks, don't stare at the computer, tv, whatever for extended periods of time. If you have to take a couple minute breaks every 10-15 or so focusing on something at a different distance (ie, if you're staring at the computer, look out the window for a few minutes).

There are several "methods" that claim to be able to help improve your vision and for a fee they'll sell you the secret. I haven't met anyone who did it so I don't know if it'll work. My guess is save your money but heck, you never know.

No, glasses will inevitably hurt your eyes in the long run, your eyes will only get weaker by relying on them. But Laser surgery
has come a LONG way. It is the best long term answer!

Re: your eyes getting better. It depends on whether you are near sighted or far sighted. I have been near sighted since high school and eventually my eye sight started to improve in my thirties.

There is something called Corneal Refractive Therapy (CRT).
