when ever we start up the pc windows installer opens up and tries to install something called photo gallery.as far as i am aware we have not tried to install this and don't even know what it is! after pressing cancel it closes but then automatically tries to re start the install after repeating the cancel about 3 times it eventually goes away. what is it and how do we get rid of it?

if you let the install run it eventually asks for a disk which we dont have!

run windows xp home, regularly check for virus/spyware

It's a program that was downloaded by someone intentionally or not.
I would first scan the PC for viruses. If none are found just let it install itself & then uninstall it via "Control Panel".

It appears harmless enough & this is the simplest solution for novice users.

I have no idea what it is, but I don't know what OS you are using. Why not let it install and if you do not like it uninstall it. I have had this happen when I installed a printer from a CD. Finally I made it happy by letting windows install it again.
