This movie makes more sense each time you watch it. Watch it again if you've only seen it once. I don't know the true meaning but what I got from it is that every minor detail of our lives affects our future. He would go back and change one little thing that seemed insignificant but it totally changed what happened in the future. I don't know about the sequel, I haven't seen it yet but it's on my netflix list.

This movie is nowhere near as smart as thinks it is. The message is basically that whatever you do can have unforseen outcomes (often bad ones, even when your intentions are good). As if you didn't already know that and it hadn't been done in many other films (and done much, much better). Ashton Kutcher is never more than adequate in anything, and he's no different here. The ending is quite depressing (and I am not one of those people that demands that everything I watch be happy happy happy). I woudn't have watched it, had I known how mediocre it was.

You need to know what the butterfly effect is in order to relate the title to the movie. The butterfly effect relates to CHAOS THEORY. In laymans terms, A butterfly flapping it's wings in texas(or wherever) changes the flow of air around it. That changing air pushes on other air in a cascading effect that changes weather patterns, and causes a monsoon on the other side of the world.
In the movie, aston kutchers character is changing time in his own past, and every little detail that he changes, causes a spiralling effect of changes throughout the rest of his life.
Consider watching "Frequency" . It's sort of the same idea, and a little bit easier to understand.

The whole movie, is about going back in time and trying to change the past , the way the guy wanted, but no matter what he did to be with the girl he loved , something would always be wrong for the wrost and he would lose someone he loved, and I didn't watch the 2nd one, cause I know it would ruin the 1st one.

I loved the film and after watching it three times realised that there was something I'd missed every time. I would definitely watch the sequal just to see if it was as good. I believe the film is about choices and how making what you think to be the right choice does not always work out the way you thought it would............God now I don't make sense!! :)

I dint know there was a sequel. I found the first one quite confusing, but its the sort of film youve got to really concentrate on, otherwise it just goes completely over your head
