I was sitting here thinking, and I realized that I am often unsure of who I am. Like there are multiple people telling me to be this way or that way and I don't know which one to let win, nor which one is actually me. And I thought, and I realized that these people, these voices, change often. I am constantly seeing new ways to act, new ways I want to be. And I want totally opposite things at the same time and it is confusing. Where in the mess is my identity?
Here is a rough sketch of my idea:
What if we all have the entire world and every person in it in our hearts, arguing who gets to be us? Maybe that is why we got through phases... we are searching for who we want to be. I think THAT is the purpose of life: Finding the right skin to live in. Sorting out the jumble of ways to live and hopefully finding yourself, discovering the person you were meant to be. It sounds pretty deep, but I think I'm on to something. Just think, the whole point of being here is to discover who we are.

Sure, we're here, but who ARE we? And by going through those stages, we might find ourselves, our soul, the traits, the way we want to live. I'm intrigued. The whole purpose of being a person here is to find the right person to be!!! What do you think?

You are on the right track. "God dwells within you as you". You have unity with God in unconditional love within your heart. All things have unity with God in the light of Gods love. As the colors of the rainbow are contained within sunlight, so to are all things contained within the light of Gods love. By focusing ones consciousness you can experience anyone who has ever lived. The meaning of life is unconditional love, the essence of your being is unconditional love. Your purpose is to awaken to your union with God. Your duty is to express this unconditional love. What most people believe about thamselves is and illusion, but a shadow of the real inner "YOU". Go inside and lose your self in Gods consciousness, which is the "Kingdom of God". The best of the thoughts, the deepest of the emotions never get expressed in words.... Even the most captivating situation invokes that 'great' feeling only from within.... The happiness within that gets snatched by the thieves are also those negative emotions within.. and their bosses, the desires and expectations are in deeper chambers also within.... So, even logically, the truth, untruth, love, hatred, joy, sorrow, and all those things are within... Just turn inwards, and for a change, just as a non-interfering , calm , very very alert witness, and observe... it may seem futile for a while, but with little more patience, when the quality of this 'watching' enhances, the true meaning of life unfolds itself... the deepening of perception , way beyond the sense organs, will open the secrets. Worth trying, no expenses involved, and the least of benefits is a little bit of self-generated calm and peace !

For some personality types, you are right. This journey and meaning of life fits perfectly with the NF (intuitive feeling
mindset. The journey of self-discovery is what drives you.

For others, like the NT's, it is the journey of discovery and ideas, the self is while not taken for granted or seen as immutable, not their main concern. They want to learn, discover, master chosen skills, and above all, master the realm of logical thought, hypotheticals, and possibilities.

For the SJ's, the journey is that of upholding order. Whether it be in family, politics, Its about the here and now, and what can be done to preserve the current order and traditions, and where order is lacking or destructive, restore balance to the system,

For SP's, its all about experience. The more the better. These are the bungee-jumpers, the life of the party, they thrive on impulse and adrenaline and action in the moment.

You use meaning and purpose interchangeably. Be careful. Purpose is objective while meaning is subjective. Our purpose on this planet is singular. To reproduce. Only during this quest does meaning spring. Therefore any meaning in life must be examined subject to the purpose of living.

Everything we see in life therefore can be considered a biological trick, only enticing us to reproduce. An example of this is babies being cute. Babies appear "cute" to us only to further the human race, and encourage couples to have them. If babies weren't cute, then why would a couple keep a shitting, puking, unresponsive, expensive, repulsive "thing" in their house? Maybe the example of babies is too harsh for some, so look at pets. Pigs and dogs have similar domesticated temperaments. Yet more people choose to have dogs as housepets than pigs, purely because dogs are more pleasant to look at. I think the ultimate meaning of life is found when one accepts the purpose of all life. That is, simply to keep life living.

The meaning of life is to own your space, thoughts, abilities, body, mind, spirit and soul. The second part is to be and to be able to be you no matter where your at or who's in front of you. To not attach to other peoples drama. Due to the main reasonable cause, its not yours. This is the reason for the static that leads to stress that causes Dis~ease. We are to be happy with who we are. To smile when we look in the mirror and be ok with that image. Once this is accomplished the rest comes into alignment and the path is more visible. Follow your bliss and you will know the meaning of your Life. Your purpose. Never waste your talent or allow anyone to take away your birthright. YOU

I definitely can see your point about how everyone wants you to be just like them, or else you just feel like you should be like everyon else, but that's impossible because there are billions of people so it's pointless to try and be like everyone else.
No two snowflakes are alike. God likes variety and He wants you to be you. However you are not complete by yourself. We all need someone to complete us and fill the empty place in our souls. The only person whom I know can complete us is Jesus, God's son and the way to God and heaven. We are here to learn to love God and others and ourselves. Love is the whole point of life.
If you are interested in the points I've mentioned, please pick up a bible and read from Ecclesiates and Romans.

Life – it has a meaning and loving purpose - you just have to find your purpose and live it.

I believe every person is here for a definite purpose. Each person is special and valuable; that refers to me, you, your family, friends, in fact everybody! There is a loving plan for each of our lives here on earth and there is no such thing as coincidence. I don't believe that anything in life happens by chance and that every aspect of our lives points to something deeper.

You need to decide now to live for God rather than for yourself. You spend your life on Earth preparing yourself (as best you can) for death. I don't see death as a scary, negative experience, but birth into a bliss filled eternal life with God. I believe that this is something you have to consciously choose or not during your life on earth.

The meaning of life is for us to discover that we are true children of an infinitely loving and merciful God, to find out what our responsibilities are to our Creator, and to fulfill those responsibilities. Each of us is called to affirm, accept and develop the talents God has given us. -

whoa... that is pretty deep and I suppose you are right in many ways... some people die without ever really knowing who they were at all... somedays I know who I am and somedays I don't like being me... what you say makes a lot of sense (at least to me it does) so I guess I'll just go through life trying to figure out what the hell I'm doing here and who the hell is that looking at me in the mirror... have a great life... = )

I got what you're saying And you are "onto" something......but I think a better way of putting it is that we come here to "remember" who we are and then align our personality with our soul (which is our essence; our "divineness")

If you're interested in philosophy/spirituality and you like to read you'd love Wayne Dyer's books.
I've read them all. He's great and writes all about the "stuff" related to your question. It's called self-realization.

Best of luck on your journey. Keep seeking :)

I like the analogy you made: "What if we all have the entire world and every person in it in our hearts, arguing who gets to be us?" It explains the confusion, and takes away the idea that you have to look outside yourself for a model of whom we want to be. That person isn't "out there" but inside; we just have to find her, and make friends with her, and accept her with all her flaws--because she's still wonderful. Brava. I think I am going to use your way of thinking to help me in my confusing times (which is like almost always). :-)
