Yes, much closer. Diomede Island, Russia is less than two miles west of Little Diomede Island, Alaska, US. The nearest spot on the Bahamas is almost 90 miles from Florida.

I know that the Bahamas are close to Miami[not sure of exact mileage, But there is a place called Wales, Alaska that is within 100 miles of Russian Territory.

Some parts of Alaska are closer and there are cases where people have family in Eastern Russia and Siberia because they had migrated.
