why do people change-both friends and personality?

This is a which comes first question. Many times a persons personality will change...and when his personality changes he/she starts to hang around those people whom fits their personality. Then if I where to move to an area that has basical the same personality around me...then I'm likely to change to fit their personality in the sense to be accepted.
