When a woman miscarries there is spotting, not necessarily lots of blood and clotting. The woman's uterus will cramp like during her menstrual period. Backpain, headaches, nausea... These things all mean miscarriage and if you suspect that you are (even in the least bit) it is medically advised that you seek medical treatment NOW. Seriously, go to the emergency room NOw if indeed you have any combination of these symptoms. Especially cramps, bleeding, and pain in the lower back.
There are other reason for some of these symptoms... Like Backpain may indeed be because of the hormone relaxin which is released as early as the first trimester though generally not felt until the third trimester. And headaches are also a release of excess hormones, not to mention the increase in blood volume from pregnancy. Nausea can be morning sickness, but is also a common symptom with women having a miscarriage.

Any bleeding while pregnant is not normal. You should see a doctor right away! If you have already done this and they have told you that you have miscarried the and you have been bleeding bright red blood and minor amounts of clumps that very well may be normal for you however, bright red blood is usually a sign of new blood and not old blood still consult your doctor right away. Your OB/GYN is the only one who can really answer that question for you.

If you are talking about yourself, you really need to see a doctor. I almost miscarried due to stress the first 6 weeks of pregnancy. I was breaking up with my fiance over the phone when I thought to myself that I really didn't want my baby either (BAD idea). Almost immediately, as I stood there talking, Blood shot out and I immediately went to the bathroom where there was lots of blood. I immediately went to the emergency room because I REALLY didn't want to lose my baby, and they were able to save the pregnancy. However, worth mentioning, they were were about to do a D/C when I said ARE YOU SURE that the baby is gone? So, they did an inner probe (where they stick this tampon looking camera) up the vaginal opening to see if there was a heartbeat. Sure enough, baby was safe!!!
Boy, was I lucky (and baby too)!!!
Your emotions are very important and keeping a positive attitude throughout pregnancy, esp beginning 6 weeks is crucial I think!

Not really, it could just be a heavy period, clumps of blood don't mean miscarriage. But go to your doctor just to be on the safe side.

not really. i had a miscarriage and i didn't bleed at all. my bloodwork numbers dropped and that's how the doctors knew. i ended up having a D & C to help "remove" what was left. I was told by the doctor that not all women bleed and that some women have miscarriages and they think that they are normal periods. I guess that bloodowrk is the only real answer for your question.

I think so. But I can't be a good source because my mom misscarried when I was 8. I remember her this one night having nose bleeds non stop and that was a really sensitve pregnancy because she always coughed up blood sometimes, and she had terrible dreams that she was going to loose the child (she told us afterwards). Anything sweet, sour, salty, that you put near her, she would hate it! She couldn't eat anything! Maybe it had to do with the fact that she the type of woman who can't carry and that she was already 39. Anyway, enough of that. =(
