Its obvious there a few white people that still carry around certain prejudices. How are these attitudes perpetuated? Passed down for there racist parents. Is it the racist subtext found in media?

I believe people are socialized to believe that others are inferior. Hence, predjudices are perpetuated. That said, it can be from parents, the media, the government--and, these are not always subtexts...oftentimes this would be in big bold letters!

the bigger problem when it comes to issues like this, is that many people ignore the embedded racist attitudes in language, education, and institutions... these things need to be challenged!

Hi. Living in the South, I have encountered white people who really are still racist. It baffles me, but I do think that a lot of it does have to do with how their parents raised them. Parents often don't realize how just simple actions or things that they say affect the mindset of their children, who are very impressionable. I am not sure that the media has anything to do with it, at least not that I can notice. Hopefully it is something that will be phased out more and more as the younger generations get older.

Also, for what it's worth, there are people of other races that are prejudice against white people, too; it can go both ways. I just plain don't understand racism in ANY context, but that's just me.

Great question! I wish I could say I don't see it. I hope for a day when I don't. :) But, I think your first reason is the most common, but substitute parents for those you are surrounded by. There is a natural tendency for humans to blame others for their troubles, it prevents one from having to be painfully introspective.

Some whites blame blacks, some blacks blame whites, Nazis blamed Jews, some Muslims blame Americans, Palestinians blame Isrealis, Sunni blame Shiites, hell men and women even blame each other. Blame is a component of prejudice, of racism.

Another component is different values. I am an american currently living in Europe. I work all over Europe and see the nationalist tendencies between British and French, or Germans and French. I see the Dutch criticizing the Belgians, and vice versa. Misunderstanding, uncommon value sets, these too lead to prejudice.

But a third and real component, comes not from differences or from blame. But rather from stereotyping. Stereotyping has a very bum rap. Stereotyping is a natural, normal and purposeful subconscious process. We do it with many things...I like to think of it as bucketing. We bucket experiences, memories with several tags. Then, when we encounter a similar experience, we draw experience from those buckets...we generalize to try to predict an outcome. If you have driven behind a delivery truck, and had it stop suddenly...and this happens a second time, then the third time you are likely to give it a wider berth. You have just prejudged.

A bad experience, or several of them, with someone from a particular culture, race, religion, profession...and you are likely to prejudge those experiences that follow. Have you ever driven into a bad neighborhood, I mean a really bad neighborhood, and checked to see if your doors were locked? We all need to do our part, not only to be good people, but to defeat stereotypes by living against them.

As an American in Europe, I work very hard to NOT fit into the stereotype of loud, obnoxious, culturally ignorant, so that I can assist europeans I encounter with overcoming their logical, reasonable stereotypes.

:)

that's unlucky that some white people have carried out terrible issues, yet we will not blame the son for the sins of his father. The exploitation remains alive, whether, it specifically includes the persevering with sexual exploitation of non white women individuals in remote places worldwide places, no longer that adult males of alternative races does no longer do precisely a similar if that they had the prospect. maximum white people are truly stable people and that's the main clarification why they have the suitable, maximum progressed, wealthy and equalitarian worldwide places interior the international and all of us come right here to take great factor concerning to the infrastructures they have created and that we at the instant can not make certain ourselves in our very own worldwide places because of the fact of our loss of cooperation.

Only white people are racists?

I've met many more racist black people in my life. They believe in sticking together regardless of who's right and who's wrong. They will back the black man first.

Seriously, do you really think that so many people would believe in OJ's innocence if he were white?

Everyone learns a lot from their parents. Many black parents teach their children that whitey is out to get them, and they should never trust him. How is that not racist as well?

There will always be racists in every race. It's just part of human nature. There are good people and bad people - always have been, always will be.

If you can't get over that and learn to judge each person on their own merit, you'll live a long, lonely, frustrated life.

I think your question should be "How did the general public get brainwashed and made to think they are racists?" I believe there are more black racists than white. How are these attitudes perpetuated? You do it yourselves by bad behavior and thinking everything should be yours because you're black.

If you can figure this one out, I'll buy your book. It sickens me to know that racism is still rampant in today's society. It must be a learned thing from generation to generation in families. Perhaps there is more to it than that. I just don't know.
