On our dark colored sweat shirts, there are some spots on them that look wet, but they are dry. Is the fabric softener doing it or the drier sheets? And how do I get rid of and prevent them? It seems to happen the most in the cold months, but it does happen in the warm months too. I'm perplexed and tired of looking like I spilled something on myself ;o)...............................

They won't come off in the next wash either. Once they appear, I can't get rid of them......................

They don't go into the wash with them, but they come out of the drier with them.

And no it's not *** or any other bodily fluids for that matter.

Now that I've read some of the answers, I did make french fries in canola oil - DUH!!! (to myself)
and I do all the cooking, so that must be what it is.
Thank you!

All the answers make sense (except the first dumbas* response). I can't pick a best. I wish I could pick everyone.
Thanks again ;o)

My first guess is canola oil! The spots won't come off if unless you use a treatment on it such as adding a drop of dishwashing liquid to the spot before washing. Fabric softener can cause spots if it isn't mixed with water before it's added to the wash. The dryer sheets shouldn't cause any problems.

it could be from the fabric softener if you use liquid. if it is from the french fries, i just might be the oil. either way, mechanice waterless hand cleaner will take it out. put a little on the spots with a tooth brush and wash as usual. good luck.

Hey Girlie Girl, Are the spots on your dark sweats somewhat darker than the reat of the fabric? This is caused by any type of cooking oil, grease spatters over a frying pan, cleaning with heavy duty nasty cleaning solutions and so on. Do you ever work any silicone sealers, that does it everytime.

You may have spilled some oily substance on yourself, either while cooking or eating,. The important thing is to attend to the spots as soon as you discover them. When it happens to me, I will take a soapy dishcloth and spot wash the soiled area immediately. This works for me every time.

This happens to my kids shirts sometimes, and they haven't been around oil. It is more than likely your softner. If you use the ball, be sure you have it closed tight and nothing around the outside edges. It's any easy thing to overlook!
