My husband is a plumber. He has just changed from being a £40K a year restaurant manager to be an apprentice plumber because the salary and job is so good. Currently as an apprentice he is on £8.50 an hour and is bringing home around £370 a week. His friend who is qualified earns £15 ph. If you are corgi registered you should be making around £20-30 per hour. Of course, if you work for yourself you make even more money.

Its all a supply and demand situation. No one wanted to be a plumber because its putting your hands down other peoples loos and so there became a shortage of 'em. So many people are doing quick plumbing courses and buying a pair of Marigolds that there will be a surfeit of plumbers in a very short time and the earnings will fall

A plumber has far creater potential to earn big bucks if they are self employed. In London plumbers can earn inexcess of £90000.
I doubt many nursery teacher make that sort of cash.

From my experience a plumber has the potential to earn more than a teacher.
On the downside for the plumber, they have to wallow around in other peoples waste & they might have to do it outside in any kind of weather.
The downside for the teacher, you have to deal with other people's screaming, rude, obnoxious little yard apes.
The upside for teachers, at least in Texas for sure, they have a great retirement plan. Like railroad workers, they don't do the social security thing, theirs is a totally separate retirement plan that is much better than SSI.

If they are fully qualified teachers (QTS) their pay-scale will be the same as other teachers.Currently this starts at around 22/23K.
