It would be odd if your dog slept in it when there were wet clothes in it.

No but get your dog out of the habit. It's like your dog telling you THIS IS MY SPOT I decide where I sleep not you.
It's setting its own authority on you, not the other way around. Also you don't know if your dog has brought any insects in from outside or walked in something that soils your clothes or infests your wash basket.
You really should start telling it NO and then giving it a treat for staying out of the basket. This reinforces what it has learnt and keeps your clothes clean and infestation free
But it can be cute as well!!

Sounds like something a dog would do. Our sleeps in strange places like that, too. He even moves around the house to find places the sun shines on the floor to lay in the sun.

Nothing surprises me about the members of your family! Your madness must rub off on them, even the dog! ;)

It's probably comforting and easy place to sleep. My daughter did that as a toddler.

That is cute but a bit annoying I suppose. I do not think it is odd.
