It seems to me that although we know that torturing the brother is a good idea, Jack doesn't. Has he just lost his mind, or is there some other evidence of his brother's complicity in a crime that Jack is aware of that I missed?

As of right now the evidence against the brother is:
1. Jack's father *might* have information about a person implicated in the nuclear weapon problem.
2. The brother has said that he doesn't know where the father is, and Jack doesn't believe him.

Surely there's more than that, right? What have I missed?

I've been watching 24 since the beginning- as it sounds like you have been and I, too, was confused by that part of the episode. I think that in the first interrogation he did this season he started to fold because of his own torture.... but, when he saw that Assad got more out of the guy I think Jack realized that he needed to go back to his 'old' Jack ways..... trust his gut.....he knows his brother and knows he's hiding something.... it's the way he's answering and acting... not any decisive evidence... I'm just about certain of that! Hope that helps... curious your final thoughts.

Personally I think that the "torture" of his brother has more to do with their past than what Jack thinks or doesn't think that the brother knows. I think that we need to wait and see what happens next, I think that Jack knows his brother knows where the dad is and I also think that Jack knows that his brother won't cooperate with out being "convinced" to.

Also, Jack doesn't know about his brother's involvement w/last year and the Syntox gas. We as viewers know about it but Jack was taken by the Chinese before he found out who was helping the President besides Walt Cummings. This whole thing w/the brother is getting better and better. I can't WAIT until Monday night!!!

Jack knows that his brother knows where he is by talking with the butler guy sam. so he is justified in torturing him. he also knows that, from last season, that his brother was involved somehow in the nerve gas. This gives him substantionable evidence to know his brother is in on whatever terrorist thing is happenin get it?

Jack can tell that he is lieing about his fathers location. It's imperative that he gets this information so he must obtain it any way he can. Hos bro is a mo-fo so torture him Jacky.
