Yes i am afraid they are kept on file ( for approx 100 year`s )before your record`s are removed but the dna evidence still remains on file as it can be used later to link your dependant`s to any crime`s they may commit in the future!
And no , it won`t effect your chances of getting a visa to go abroad !

I presume you are an adult when you use the term caution instead of final warning or reprimand, therefore the caution will stay on your record for 5 years. However, if you have convictions on your record as well, the caution will stay on your record until the conviction can be taken off your record if at all (depending on offence, sentence, etc) or the 5 years until the caution has expired, whatever is the longest. That is the national police computer records however also be aware that depending on what the caution is for it may also be held on local police records for up to 20 years, sexual offences and violence, especially on children or vulnerable people will make them kept the information locally and if that's the case they may under certain circumstances disclose it during that 20 years. It used to be until recently that the picture, fingerprints and DNA, should all be destroyed once a criminal record is deleted, whether a caution or full conviction, however with recent world events don't be surprised if that changes!!

To your first question the answer is YES they are kept for ever.
To your second question the answer in theory is YES too but that may not in fact be the case. It certainly will be on 'your record' for the medium term (like the next ten years) but after that if you have not committed any other crimes and the offence for which you were cautioned was very minor, then it may be that your record gets 'weeded' to make more space in the Police National Computer.
You can go that most main police stations and for a £10 fee you can request a copy of the information that is held about you on the Police National Computer.
If when applying for a job you are required to state if you have any police cautions or convictions and you answer falsely not only may you lose your job but you also committe offences under the recent Fraud Act.

If you accept a caution you are accepting the fact that you are guilty so any fingerprints, photographs, DNA etc that are taken are kept on record indefinitely (or until the police lose them)!
Hope this helps!

Your better off removing yourself from all social networking sites for a while and change your contact details and phone number as the police are useless in this country and wont be able to help you. They will however have him arrested after you have been physically abused or murdered though but obviously that's no good to you. Get yourself one of those alarm things to carry about with you.

I think that if you have been arrested the police can take your finger prints etc and keep this data forever
