On a recent trip to Cancun I noteced that there were few if any flying pesky insects. Even around the street lights at noght there were just no insects. Cancun was build on a Swamp very close to the tropics. There is standing water everywhere. I never saw any ants, mosquitos, moths, or grasshoppers. I saw very few insect eating animals.

I went to Cancun several years ago. Although there are lagoons they did not appear to be swampy to me. The land is mostly sand beaches and ocean water. Even here in New England there are not flying insects at the beaches that are on the ocean.
