Words like "happiness", "successful", etc. are what the individual thinks they are. One person may think another is not happy but they don't know that person's life. If things are going right or going ok for you then you could say that you are happy. If your dreams are coming true then that's good.
There are just as many different people in the world as there are different currencies. One country might say they are poor but yet they say they have everything they need and are happy. It depends on how one thinks and feels about themself. One person cannot judge another.
For me I think people in general are happy, and are happy with their families. For outward things and world things there's always room for improvement.

Happiness is an artifact...a man made object. It is not a goal where, after you tic off all items on your list of goals and ambitions, you get to be happy.
Make some everyday - there is always something to be happy about.
If you are having a hard time being happy in the world - you probably should find professional help.

Yes there is plenty of happiness going on in this world. Happiness is simply a state of mind that can be obtained by something as simple as instant gratification. How do i feel living in the world? I feel something that most people unfortunately do not. That is joy. It is felt in the depths of my soul and deep within my being. Joy is something far more deep than simple happiness. Happiness can be obtained by financial gain, spending, smoking,i.e. drugs, alcohol, sex, beauty etc....the list goes on and on. I would ask that you explore Joy. Most of the world is happy on the outside but deep down i think they are sad. Because as i said happiness is just a matter of instant gratification to ease the real pain and is a dead end to what they are really trying to obtain.......which is Joy.

He he, I think "we" is far too general for this question! Some days are good, some days suck. I know it's a cliche, but the secret to happiness is appreciating every moment. For example, you just had a great day with your bf/gf and then when you're home, you might feel down because they're not with you or you can be happy that you had a good day and now you're contemplating it!
"Never regret anything that once made you smile."

I like the way "E" said it. I agree that attitude has a lot to with happiness.
If you're an unhappy person inside you will naturally see every event as unhappy. You may even find yourself distrusting good events as conspiratorial. But if on the other hand you are happy with yourself, you see bad things that happen as a way to test your resolve and make you stronger and more confident for the future. And that they happen for a reason that may not be evident immediately.
So happiness is everywhere if you look for it - same with unhappiness.

Being not happy is imperative for being happy.
It is just like Yin and Yang, if there is no "not being happy" states, there can't be "being happy" state.
Am I happy? When I think about how lucky guy I am, I'm just happier than anybody on this earth. Believe in Jesus. It's definitely one of the best way to appreciate your life as much as you can.

One of the big reasons why all of us struggle with being happy is cause we think all of life is about BEING HAPPY. It's not. There are moments of happiness - like the day you graduate, the day your parents bought you a nice present, the day you met the girl of your dreams, or the day you got a promotion cause of your good work. All of life isn't about being happy, but it's about learning to constantly adapt amidst all the lemons life throws at us.

I think most people are not happy. Some think they are happy but their happiness can be very shallow. Like getting a fancy car or brand name jacket or something that is materialistic.
Many should be happy of who they are and what they have, but they are not. They were blinded or affected by the social atmosphere which preach for materistic and superficial looks from the outside.
I think very few really found the true happiness and cherish what they have.

the world is fast pace and impersonal and out of hand. i wish we could strip away all the technology and exposure and go back to the 70's. everyone had heart and soul in those days because there was more moral and value and respect for one a nother.
