You have to be careful when you buy online, but there is one big thing: https:// if it has that, then you SHOULD be okay. I would suggest getting a firewall, virus protection, and spyware/adware remover, if you don't already have all of those. Here's some links to sites that have them free, if you don't have them. When you download them, you should be okay. :) Enjoy!

Use firefox for all your shopping online, it has a really good firewall, that IE 6 & 7 are missing.
Never submit your information to an unsecure Web site. Make sure the address reads https - the s is secure.
You don't have to put your information online, but you can search out products you want to buy and most companies offer a customer service line you can call to place the order.
Companies like Land's End, Cold Water Creek, Oriential Trading Company and many more are decent enough to understand the world is not interested in sharing their vitals.

I was affected by the Paypal scam too, but that type of problem these days only happens once in a while. Its a fact of the internet, eventually it will happen to you.

Good Luck

I shop on the internet all the time, even with companies of unknown reputation. There is nothing to be afraid of. You just have to protect your payment means. The best thing here is one-time credit card numbers. You login to your bank's web site, and request a one-time use credit card number, which is just an alias for your regular credit card, except that it has much shorter expiration time, and you can limit the available credit line. The merchant only gets to charge up to the amount you specify, and the number is useless afterwards. Citibank, Discover, MBNA (not sure if BofA will change things after the acquisition) support them, and there are probably others. I'm using it with a Citi credit card, and am very happy with it.

I do, in general it's pretty safe. If you see a web page with a little golden lock symbol in your browser window, it can indicate that the page is safe (not always though, but usually). Just be careful who you buy from and make sure they use encryption at the site. If the address starts with https:// (an extra s after http) then it means its encrypted (but not always, it could be a normal http://).

Try to buy from some big companies. Paypal is safe as long as you don't reply or click on any email which say they send from those site, most are junk and get you information. I used Paypal a lot and I have few Paypal account. My information still safe. Also don't forget to change your passwords once every few months. Good luck buddy.

I have bought things on line. I am pretty scared also. I would not buy it on line unless I just had to.

Because I have developed on line stores and the people that own those stores do not like to spend a lot of money protecting your information.

Just a thought

Thanks

Um... You shouldn't lose your stuff if you put down you adress and phone number, just don't do something stupid like type ur social # or credit card number... I don't really think using a credit card online is such a hot idea. But if you get gift cards to walmart or something, thats when i buy stuff online
