Safe yes, but uncomfortable and plus the child will outgrow that long before a crib. Our daughter couldn't sleep in hers by 12 months....it was just too small for all the moving around she does at night. Same thing with my friend's son, my sister's son and my other friend's daughter. We all stopped using them by 15 months at the lastest and my nephew couldn't sleep in his by 10 months. Seems like someone is CHEAP and doesn't want to spend the money....seriously, they are only $100 and most pack n plays are at least $75!

There is nothing wrong w/ using a playpen as a crib as long as there is no loose bedding materials (blankets, pillows, etc...) A crib will be easier on her back when getting the baby in and out of it.

I used one of the travel playpens with a bassinet for about 4 months, then used the playpen for my son to sleep in. IT was handy, because we could take his "bed" wherever we went, which meant he would sleep wherever we went. He outgrew it at about 10 months old, though. But I did use it as a regualr bed for him until then, and had no problems at all with it. I also didn't have the room or money to get a crib... So, I personally don't see anything wrong with it, and my sons doctor didnt see anything wrong with it either....

I used mine as a crib until just recently; it actually is better then a crib IMHO I'd still use it except my son is too large for it to be used safely. Soon as I put my son in his crib, first thing that happened is he got his leg stuck inbetween the bars. And we do have those stupid crib protectors and they dont protect nothing. The travel one was completely netted so he couldn't do that, and he tossed and turned and never once was he in danger in it.

What do you mean as the real deal? Using it as a crib? When I go to my mom's overnight, I take the playpen so he can sleep in it at night. It's safe, why wouldn't it be?

Why not, its safe to use when you travel, so why not use it everyday? Many people use them as a crib, especially if they don't have a lot of room in their place for a crib, or enough money to buy a crib. If your that worried then go buy her a crib as a gift.

I been to the Philippines (Manila, Borcay, Quezon City, La Reunion, and other parts) when i was 8 with my family. It's pretty safe at all just make sure that you have car that is not expensive. Get a ordinary car like a Toyota or Honda (rental car). If you have an expensive one it is going to get carjacked (Mercedes Benz, Ford, Chevy, BMW, ect) Now i am 13 and i want to go back. I also have family there since i am Filipino/American (Both my dad and mom side)Traffic is bad there since of overpopulation. Go to Borcay or Cebu if you want safe part of the Philippines. Don't go to Mindanao since they are kidnappings there. Don't take the cabs since you can get a risk of being kidnapped. P.S. Borcay has nice resorts. Pinoy Resort is the best. Don't drink tap water. If you go to Borcay, go scuba diving and banana boating. Ive been there. Don't use your Credit Card (if you are american) since they take your credit card number to go on vacation. My family there is rich and it is safe for them.

Its fine if its ok for temporary why wouldn't it be ok for everyday. It may not be as comfortable for the baby as a crib but it should be fine as long as she doesnt keep a lot of toys or blankets in the play pen.
