Because Hollywood is NOT A CHRISTIAN PLACE!!!! . When one good movie comes along to tell people TO REFLECT ON THE SUFFERING OF ONE MAN CRUCIFIED ON THE CROSS FOR ALL SINNERS AND THE COMPASSION WE SHOULD SHOW TOWARD THIS MAN's TRUE PURPOSE OF LIVING--THE CHRIST WHO SUFFERED AND STILL SUFFER FOR ALL MANKIND SO THAT THOSE WHO BELIEVED IN HIM SHALL HAVE ETERNAL LIVE!!! MANY TURN THEIR DEAF EARS AND MOCKED AT THIS MOVIE!!! THIS TRULY INDICATE THE SHALLOWNESS OF THE ENTERTAINMENT WORLD!!!!! They are like the pharisees of 2,000 years ago in the time of Christ--mocking and condemnation!!!THE DISGUSTING ATTITUDE and BAD RECEPTION THEY SHOW TO THE WORLD BY NOT GIVING CREDIT TO THIS MOVIE!!!! INSPITE OF VERY HIGH TICKETS SOLD WORLDWIDE!!!! Nowaday, we are watching many trash movies that make to the Oscar. WE SHOULD LEARN TO EVALUATE THE TRASH MOVIES CHURNING OUT FROM THIS INDUSTRY AND BOYCOTT THEM. One just wonder WHO CONTROL THE ENTERTAINMENT WORLD?? THEY ARE THE ONES WHO DECIDE WHICH MOVIE DESERVES the oscar. Nothing to do with the high or low ticket sale rating!!!! If you have children--STOP WATCHING MOVIES because the false world of the MOVIE-LAND subtlely "CORRUPT" the mind of our children!!! BE CAREFUL to choose the right movie for our children to watch because many movies displayed violence, anger, destruction. PARENTS, BE RESPONSIBLE WHAT YOU ARE GIVING YOUR CHILDREN TO WATCH!!!

The question is ridiculous. It didn't win because it wasn't voted the best movie by the voters.
Plus, I thought the movie was awful. I want to see Mel's new movie Apocolypto. It looks interesting in the trailers. Passion was just awful, the Satan actor was awful and the dialogue was so ridiculous. I enjoy religious movies, like Ben Hur, Ten Commandments, Greatest Story Ever Told, etc...a few others, even though I don't believe in God, they are cinematic masterpeices, esp. Ben Hur. Passion was more like watching the "plot" in a music video.
Not a religion-basher, but this movie's only redeeming quality in my mind WAS the idea that a non-English movie ought to be shot in native language and subtitled.
Nothing breaks the suspension of disbelief faster than watching Americans play the english speaking premier of Russia, ordering the missle strike etc, in war movies...
Anyhow, Passion was so boring to watch, I think being crucified would have been less painful.
Or maybe the psychos are right and it's a Jew conspiracy. I believe in Christian conspiracies, so why not?

You are asking about why The drivel Fest masters of Hollywood didn't nominate or award a movie about an upright man being murdered in the 1st century an Oscar..?
Well, they don't agree with the basic ideology of Christianity if it upsets their A-moral culture. And the very fact that it revers Christ would set them on edge, not to mention that graphic scenes like the Scourging are not what Hollywood considers appropriate. T!ts and @$$ however areappropriate in their eyes.. along with moaning and hump & grind scenes.

All that doesn't matter if the people who vote for the Oscar don't vote for it. Big box office does NOT automatically mean an Oscar; otherwise trash movies like Jackass 2 would win one!

I heard that Hollywood was, and always has been, run by Jews. Mel Gibson has always been a thorn in their feet (sorry about the thorn) being such a devoted Catholic. A film showing that it was the Jews who crucified Jesus is not acceptable.

i'm totally sold out to Jesus.
But i realize that most of the top grossers rarely do well at the oscars, except in the science areas ( cinematography, sound mixing etc)
i love Jesus, but to be fair, i don't think Passion, Jim Caviezel or Mel Gibson did better than those who won.

On the day that the Oscars are awarded solely on the basis of box office receipts, the Academy will have forfeited what little credibility it has left.

Because it put the Jews in a poor light (remember, they're the ones that drove Pontius Pilate to crucify Jesus), and Hollywood is run by Jews.
Make the Jews look bad, no Oscar. Pure politics.

Honestly....films like that aren't considered "cutting edge" or "something fresh and new"....because it is a historical re-enactment....the story is over 2000 years old.
Just like comedies...have you ever seen a comedy get "Best Picture" or "Best Screenplay"?
No, because the Oscar Board doesn't see this as art.
I hope that helps.

because movies dont get an oscar depending on how many people watched it. Look at Dreamgirls. That movie deserved one for sure...but it didnt get one.
