Free or Cheap Winter Activities for Adults?

I'm just wondering what kinds of free or cheap winter acitivites my husband and I can do for fun? We like going for walks and hikes, and enjoy snowboarding when we can afford it. What other winter activities can we do with each other?

Cross country skiing is cheap, once you have the gear (and the gear is cheaper to hire or buy than Alpine gear). If you like hiking XC is like hiking on skis. You could also try snow shoeing. In both activities you can go as far as time and fitness allow.

How about sledding together? Building an igloo together? Try to learn about and 'read' animal tracks in the snow together? Go fishing together (If you do go fishing on ice do not stand on thin ice though!!!!!!! Get really well informed about the thickness of the ice!!!!!!)? Cuddle up in bed together or in front of the fire-place? Do some drawing of a nice winter-landscape?

sledding as mentioned above is cheap if you can find a hill.

for really cheap fun, you don't even need a sled, just use a large garbage bag or plastic tarp! obviously the heavier the plastic the longer it'll last. if you get a really cheap bag it may only last one or two runs. spray on a little silicone, wd-40 or even cooking spray and it'll really fly!

pass watch some community suburban footy, have a meat pie and a lager, kick a footy at 0.5 time and hear the coaches 3 quarter time speech. this is a classic Melbourne concern to do, and loose too.
