In today's PC climate, you can be accursed of endangering the health of your child by smoking in front of them, passive smoking has proven health risks.

But I am a baby boomer, a '60s wild boy. So my children have seen me smoking pot since birth, I do drink but never to excess because I hate being drunk.
None of my kids smoke ( they are all adults now) those who drink do so responsibly. They are all anti drug.
If I knew then what I know now about passive smoking I would have made sure that I did not smoke in front of them.
Suppose one of my great kids gets lung cancer, in all possibilities it could have been due to passively inhaling my smoke as a child.
So my advice NO it's not worth it.

I think so, as long as you are acting like a responsible adult around them. Many people smoke even though they know it is bad for them, and should tell you child it is bad for them and would be best if they didn't do it. But when they are adults, if they want to smoke, they will, there isn't much you can do to stop them. As far as drinking, as long as you aren't completely intoxicated, you hopefully would be setting a good example for them. When the time comes that they are old enough to drink they can think to themselves, well mom or dad use to drink a beer or two, or glass of wine, so drinking a little now and then is o.k., but I don't want to drink a whole bottle, that is the wrong way to behave.

Second hand smoke affects them like it hurts you

You would be giving them an early start for lung cancer.
A 15 year head start.

Nope - I would not do it.

My 16 year old son laughed that we got a smoke free room at a motel years ago - guess it was the age -

I took him down the hall to a room that was being cleaned for the
morning after the smoking guests had left - even though the door had been opened for a while - it only took 30 seconds to 'enjoy' before we were ready to bolt -

And HE asked - Dad - can you imagine having to sleep all night in that room?

I think it depends on what you teach your children, how much and how often you drink and smoke. Ok, I'm actually going to say no smoking around the kids because of the second hand smoke. I don't smoke. I think that having a drink every now and again, not getting wasted in front of the kids is ok. But if you are drinking everyday then it's not ok. If you get wasted around them, then it's not ok. Moderation.

No- they just made it illegal in Maine to smoke in the car with children inside. Don't ever expose your children or anyone's children to second hand smoke. Drinking is fine if it's an occasional glass of wine or bottle of beer. Not if it's a twelve pack or hard liquor every night and getting tossed regularly.

second hand smoke is deadly, you decide
drinking (to excess) also sets a very bad example....I don't think so.......although an occassional glass of wine or a glass of beer is more of less the norm and probably would not hurt anything as long as the parents did not drink to excess and act like an *** in front the their children.

I don't think it okay to smoke in front of your child due to second hand smoke issues. They have not chosen to inhale your smoke. Drinking in front of your child is harmful if you drink too much and get drunk. If you only have one drink ever once in a while that is not too bad.

of course not.. we all know that passive smoking can be even worse than smoking. children shouldnt be exposed to smoking .. it affects their health and they become more sensitive to diseases. there is also the other thing.. that children have their parents as example.. so parents should actually be careful on what they are doing.. if they want to smoke if of course their choice to do so but also the kids have the right to be protected from such things...

Smoke outside and sure, having a glass of wine or a shot isn't a bad idea..espcially if it takes the edge off of parenting a spoiled little brat.
