without hearing it for myself, could it be a blower fan? fridges have a fan that blows cold air from the freezer compartment into the food compartment. when you open the freezer door, look for the fan and light switch and push the little pin in. that will turn off the light and turn on the fan, if the noise starts up when you do this, the fan motor is bad or the duct that the air flows through is blocked or clogged. if just the fan blows and you don't have any noise, you may have a bad freezer gasket that is allowing air to be sucked into the freezer when it is running. in that case you will need a new door gasket. hope this helps, good luck.

Without hearing the sound myself, I'm only guessing bcuz I had a similar problem once. If your freezer has an ice maker, but it isn't hooked up, it could be the lever from that. It would be over the area on top where the ice would come out. If it's down or all the way up it makes a horrible sound, but if you latch it directly in the middle, the sound stops. Sounds crazy, but it happened with my old refrig.

via leaving the door open, you in all probability brought about the compressor to overwork itself, and in an old freezer, that could desire to in all probability reason injury by way of fact the shifting areas have been worn first of all. there is not any longer lots you're able to do via your self different than call a fix save and ask them what you're able to do till your mom and dad get living house.

Look for a bag of money that your local congressman hid in there... lol

Please have someone check out the fan and make sure the compressor can maintain a full charge.

Sounds like the compressor could be trying to lock up and when you open the freezer it relieves pressure.

The circulator fan between the freezer and refigerator is going bad.
Replacement of fan required.
