I've been in the market for a new job and each time someone calls me they ask where I am in the job search or if I have had any other interviews. Why do they ask this question and what is the best way to respond?

I am currently keeping all options open, but I was very interested in your company. That's how you answer. It's honest, but it won't turn them off. It is ultimately YOU who has to decide if you don't want to take on an interview because one you had last week is "promising".

They're just checking to see how desperate you are. Technically, it's none of their business, and it's rather unprofessional of them to ask, so I'd consider that when you consider the company. The best response, regardless of the truth is that you are 'considering a few different opportunities at this time'. Heck, one of your opportunities may be the online application system at Wal-Mart, but they don't need to know that. Just let them know that you're out, you're looking, and you have options.

If they press for further information, you are well within your right to tell them that you don't feel this is an appropriate question, that you feel that their company may use the information to formulate a job offer based on market circumstances, not your individual qualifications.

NEVER discuss salary offers if they ask it.

If you have been in the search for some jobs for quite a while, or not had any interviews, they assume you lack something. They are more cashis in talking to you.

The best reply is "I've done quite well in both areas". You do not have to explain what you have done. This is true if you have had only one, the one you are talking about now. If not, tell them you are just getting started. If you have had only one, this is true.

They are trying to gage your availability. Basically, they want to find out if you have offers on the table or if you are still waiting to be contacted. You don't have to tell them anything but the best answer would be "I have a few offers however I am taking my time and weighing my options in order to find the best fit for me" But you do not have to give them any specific information like what company's are looking at you or anything like that. Hope this is helpful. Good Luck.

A reference examine is that final component somebody will do earlier offering a job. each and every so often it extremely is even performed after the supply. you will get an supply "pending a reference examine." so which you're in exceedingly solid shape. they are only double checking. you have the activity truthfully, and the only component which could take place from here is that one in each and every of your references will blow it for you. I truthfully have had that take place. I checked a candidate's references as quickly as, and the guy I referred to as gave a bad reference for the candidate. i desperate to no longer hire the guy per that reference. It wasn't lots what the reference mentioned regarding the candidate, yet that the candidate had chosen his references so poorly. how are you able to be so stupid to place down a guy or woman who supply you with a bad reference?? decide on your references intently!

Tell them you are looking for a job to make a long term commitment to and from that prespective you want a job you can dedicate yourself too. Tell them you have had a few interviews of quality and promise but are open new offers.

They ask because they want to know if they should hire you, or if ud leave if they hired u or why you havent gotten a job yet...and so forth. Play them for all its worth..its like selling yourself...appear cool, and confident and throw in grace and charm.

I think it's to gauge your interest in getting a new job, and your success rate. I'd just answer honestly, since creating an answer that's not true can come back to bite you.
