According to CNN no!
They have to wait for table scraps from China to even survive the next few decades.
Some, such as CNN say that with in 5-10 years China will own the USA. Is this possible?

Wrong. In 10 years China will have an economy 1/5 the size of the US's, instead of 1/6. China will continue to be far more dependent on the US than vice versa.

And, "CNN" didn't say that -- some hyperventilating pundit on CNN would have said that.

Of course the US will remain far more powerful than China into the foreseeable future. The question is, would the US be willing to protect its western "allies" from outside threats? Considering the sheer contempt those countries have shown for the US ever since 9-11? I say no, let them die.

The question itself doesn't seem to belong under economics, but your explanation has to do a little with it. As for the question, yes we are protected. Militarily we have no rival, and despite all the alarmism, even 10 September 11ths would kill less than 0.001% percent of our populace much less the amount of resources would be daunting and conspicuous in this day and age. As for your explanation, economic security, I believe we are protected in the sense that we have one of the most competitive knowledge economies in the world. The debt doesn't matter as long as people still invest here, and when you look at the competition it's safe to say that that will be the status quo for some time.

The same things were said about Japan in 1980s. Didn't happen, did it?

And while you are worried about China owning the U.S., look into how much of the U.S. is owned by Britain...
