The mass of an object is the total (unchanging) mass of all the atoms and molecules making it up. However its weight will depend on its location relative to another mass. For example a 100 pound lead weight on the surface of the earth will have a finite number of lead atoms but will weigh much less on the moon and nothing at all in a space shuttle orbiting the earth.

Mass is a measure of the amount of matter present. Weight is the effect gravity has on this mass. On the moon something will weight less but it will still have the same mass.
