I have very fair skin and I wear Clinique make-up (foundation and powder) and last night my hubby and I went bowling for a couple of hours and then stopped at Wal-Mart to get a CD. When we were in Wal-Mart I looked in a mirror and my face looked like a ghost!! I know that lighting has a lot to do with it, but when I bought my make-up from the Clinique counter, they matched the foundation to my arm so I'm guessing it matches my skin tone. I do wear a bronzer, but it didn't look like I had anything on except this pasty white make-up!! I just wanted to leave so no one would see me. Any suggestions...should I go a shade darker? Am I wearing too much? I just put a small amount on, but I have to wear it because unfortunately I wasn't blessed with flawless skin! Thanks!

Actually, I think she did match it ony my jawline...and I think she even gave me a shade darker...but I still look like a ghost! I just didn't know if my skin tone changes during different climates or something, lol.

When they test for what color is best they need to do it on your face. I am a red head and naturally have very fair skin and when you go out in the sun or anything of that nature your face tends to change color. The underside of your arm(which I'm sure that's where they tested it) is most likely not the same shade as your face. I recommend going to a dif Clinique(100% satisfaction policy) and have them redo your colors but do a facial color match.

Matching foundation to your arm is a myth. Your face and your arm are NOT the same tone. Your face sees much more sunlight....and has more sun damage than you arms. So matching your arm is not a good idea.
I personally think that the Clinique counter is the worst place to shop for makeup. They oversell you...stuff you don't need. Or they sell you the wrong formulas. My co-worker has dry skin, and they sold her 80 bucks worth of oil controlling makeup!!!!
Try Loreal True Match. And match it to your face, not your arm. The price is right too!

I am not a fan of Clinique. To me it is second rate and pasty anyway. I suggest that you try Trucco or Nicole Miller. If your going to spend the money you should get something that is worth it. I have found that the only true way to match your foundation is to guess what?...ACTUALLY PUT IT ON YOUR FACE! If you don't do this you will wind up picking something to light, too dark, to yellow, to pink etc... Both Trucco and Nicole Miller are true to color and doesn't look one way and go on another. They are light, they don't clog your pores, and they have great smoothing and refining qualities with their coverage.

Yes I wear a Clinique foundation too, that matches really well, and a beauty therapist friend told me you have to shake their foundation *really* well before applying or you can get this pasty look. If you're like me its a quick shake and apply. So try shaking really well and see how you look next time.

No sweety they matched color to your hand and usually it is way off on what you want to your face color to look like. Trust me by the counter at Macy's they got me full night make up which looked awesome with right shades and all but they picked very fair skin tone and its not like i want to show my skin color, i didnt want to match it to what i have. i wanted to give it a shade darker or maybe two. You should of specified that. But hey i guess you was just like me trusting these sellers, but really all they do it sell. They dont give a daymn on how you going to look, they just want to sell. So next time what they matched to your hand skin request a shade or two darker. ;)

oh... i'm sorry that happened to you! i have the same problem!
i went to a MAC tutorial session once, with "Gordon Espinet," who is one of their senior makeup artists. he was talking about darker complexioned women, and how THEY often have the problem of looking dead/odd with makeup, b/c their skin is naturally a couple different shades in the various contours of their faces. when he applied the model's makeup (who was a little darker skinned), he actually used two or three foundation shades in different areas. like right next to her nose, vs. on her cheeks, etc. like, to distinguish where the shadows would be.
later, when i asked him about this after the "class," he said this was more a concern for people with darker skin. but now i'm wondering if this wouldn't solve our problem, too...

I think your problem is lighting. different colors and shades look alot different in different lighting. When i go and find foundation i test it in different lightings, its a lil bit of a pain in the but, however once you find the exact shade it becomes easy. there is also a company that can match you exactly, my gf had that done but i dont recall the website.

The best way to match your makeup color is to try it on your jaw bone.
