How should I control my nerves before i go on stage as I am not the most confident of performers and also, I have always been a bit of a mumbler and on stage it can come through a little and hinder my joke telling and performance. Please help me out! Cheers, and I will choose a bet answer at the end.

Take an Improv or Acting class...it will help get used to being in front of an audience.

Also, try Emotional Freedom Techniques (emotional tapping). EFT can relax you quickly before you go on stage. Go to the EFT website and download their free instruction manual.

Start imitating your favorite comedian. Pretend you are him. So it's not you, but him, looking at those people. Then slowly assume your own talented personality. Remember stand-in audiences are eager for entertainment, it's not the Hamlet soliloquy they are expecting. A good mateiral is crucial here! Looooooooooong jokes are boring, hermetic stories get no answer. Always speak in the first person. And, what else? Oh, yeah. Break a leg.

the best thing to do is

practice on family mmbers and friends, local coffe shop, etc
take classes in public speaking
find a spot at the back of the room (or have a friend in the audience) and place your concentration there.
