There is another test will do - it is not a blood test. Very late in your pregancy they will do a swab to test for Strep B. I can't think of any other test.... Good luck and congratulations!

All of those tests are optional. Please be aware that the AFP test is not 100% accurate. Gestational diabetes is important since some women can develop it during their 5th or 6th month. I'll be going for mine tomorrow. There could possibly be others if you are extremely concerned about the health of your child or because you have a history of these illnesses in your family, but I'm not sure what they are exactly. Ask your doctor and remember, they are not mandatory blood tests. Good luck and have a great pregnancy!

Yes. Unless, they find something at your 20 or so week ultrasound, then that can usually require more testing or more ultrasounds. They found that my son had a dilated kidney and chorroid plexus cysts, around 20 weeks...They said that usually having one or the other doesn't mean anything but since they found them together, they wanted to do another higher level ultrasound called a Schedule II. The next week at the high level ultrasound they said that the kidney was less dilated. Dilated kidney is more common in boys, because of them trying to get their plumbing working-urination and that the Cysts were almost gone as well. (The cysts come from when the brain is forming...Spinal fluid gets pushed into the somewhat empty brain cavity, it alone usually means nothing but can be a marker for many genetic disorders... when found with other problems) Everything ended up being fine. Our son is a happy healthy 3.5 years old.
Plus we brought a blank videotape to our high level ultrasound and they were able to record it. So we have his ultrasound on tape. It’s so cool, to have been able to share the video with all our family & friends!

As long as all these tests come out normal then this should be all that they test for. With the AFP it can be misleading so if it comes back abnormal don't freak out. Most of the time absolutely nothing is wrong. They should do the blood sugar level test around 24 wks, I believe.

Yes that is it unless they have reason to test you for other things later on. Yes and I agree with the person above. The AFP is not always accurate. It came back that with my 2nd son, there was risk of him being down syndrome....Well it was a false positive. , and those happen alot. I found that out after I started working in an OBGYNs office.

this is not mandated. yet, the two my OBs (I used distinctive practices for my 2 pregnancies) examined my blood to work out if i became a provider (it does not attempt the toddler). in case you have been a provider the attempt could be presented to your husband/companion. the two dad and mom might desire to be companies for the toddler to have CF. in the experience that your husband/companion became additionally a provider you're able to likely be presented a diagnostic attempt (like amnio) ... the risk the toddler might have CF whilst the two dad and mom are companies is a million in 4. family contributors historical past does not matter ... you and individuals on your loved ones might desire to nevertheless be companies. a pair of million in 25 Caucasian every person is companies.
