If I don't already have my education and career in my 30s, is it too late to start over? I mean, with years of education ahead, is it worth it to change your career when I'm already in my 30s? Doesn't the job market look down upon late career starters?

This question is faced by thousands of people every year. I did myself when I retired from the Air Force. You are trying to start a new career just like I did a few years back.

Take a look at the website below. There is a very large percentage of older Federal employees that will be retiring in the next few years. Most Federal agencies are doing a major review of who will still be working; most are hiring in some of the beginning pay grades now so there are people ready to move up when the retirements really start coming.

It is not too late. And if you do nothing now, you will be that much further away from happiness five years from now.

Good Luck!

I'm doing this right now!

After being self-employed for 15 years I'm looking to get a 'real job' to pay the bills while I manage my investments. I'm about your age (late 30's) and it's been a real challenge overcoming my doubts and fears about my age and employability.

The reality is that you are right at the threshhold of your highest earning years. Your experience and maturity will pay off in tangible ways if you manage them correctly. For instance: If you spent the last 10 years running a team of gardeners for a lawn care service you were still a MANAGER IN A CUSTOMER SERVICE COMPANY WITH A STAFF OF 10 working directly to resolve client issues!

Getting the training you need to step up to the next level is a great investment IMHO. Even if you don't get your dream job to start with, you are going to be first in line to be promoted because you're presumed to be more trustworthy and mature than a 20 year old that was doing beer bongs at the frat house only months before.

I've been getting great responses to my resume, and I expect to be working soon. After getting past my original fears, I am shocked and amazed by what is out there if you look!

Good luck!

It's never too late! Many people have started over into their 50's, 60's, and 70's.
If you start over now, maybe by the time you are 40 you will have a career you really enjoy. When you start over, consider the fact that, at 40, you will still have 25 years to work at the career of your choice.
I was 48 when I started the career I really loved.

definitely not too late. You are still relatively young and hopefully have a long work career ahead of you. Even if it takes you 6 years to complete the educational requirements you will still be on track. You know this really don't you.

It is absolutely not too late to start over. I did not too long ago. I work from home with a company that manufactures products that we’re already buying elsewhere, but they are better, safer & healthier. We just help set up customer accounts and the company pays us to do so. We set our own hours and work as little or as long as we want. It is a wonderful opportunity and has really benefited our family. The best part is, there is no financial risk involved. You are welcome to email me for more information: burbankhomework@yahoo.com

I am not sure if that is so, but my opinion:
If you are unhappy now then it is definitely better to change careers than stay and be unhappy. Better late than never! You go for it!

it is never to late to start over, it is just harder than when you are young. If you don't start now, will you say this again in 5 years?
