the best right now (living) is probly john mayer. he's got soul, funk and can play anything from pop to blues and everything in between. clapton is awesome but he doesnt have the versatility of john mayer. the best of time though is hendrix! no one would be where they are without him! he invented it all!

The best in the world is Spanky, who was on the D'angelo tour. Not only is he the funkiest and smoothest, he IS the most genuine and humble man on the axe. Can play circles around the best with style and grace.

Tony Iommi is synonymous with heavy rock, having more or less invented the genre single-handedly with the dark and doom of Black Sabbath.
So I guess the question could/should be who is the best in their style? Toni has created his own style/genre and rock, heavy metal, death metal, speed metal, etc, etc...have all stemmed from his creation.
