I like the name Jackson for a boy, but our last name is Bower. Would the name be a cruel thing to do to a child, mainly b/c the nickname "Jack"...?

Jack Bower is not a bad name, and it is different from the television show. Sure there will be a bit of a push from friends....if they watch the show. But by the time he's old enough, he won't care. Bauer is the correct spelling....plus his name would be Jackson, not Jack. So he'd know that you didn't name him after Keefer's character....no matter how awesome he is.

I didn't really care for the nickname Eli when I named my son Elijah. I just figured people wouldn't call him that if I asked them not to. Well, I was wrong!! Everyone calls him Eli and the more I here it the more I dislike it. I can gaurentee the same thing will happen to your son.

I might sound dumb for asking but Why would Jack Bower be a cruel thing to name a child? Was he a wierd charactor in a book or something. If I'm 24 and don't know, I'm sure the kids at his school won't know about this other Jack Bower either, therefore they can't make fun of him for it.

I would try to find something else but it would work as a middle name. How about Spencer Jackson Bower or Matthew Jackson Bower. Sebastian Bower would sound good too.

If you don't like the name "Jack." Don't name a boy "Jackson." Everyone will either call him Jack or Jackie.
Although I don't think Jack Bower sounds bad. The T.V. show won't be popular forever....................

not really, just remember that by the time your child has grown up the 24 season will be long gone and no - one will remember the name connection. the only thing that matters is if you and hubby like the name. i really like the name jack, i wanted to call my son that, it is my grandfathers name. but unfortunately i have married a guy with the surname frost, now that would be cruel....

No, I don't think that that will be cruel. How many young children will get it? By the time his friends are old enough to get it, the show will be out, and if only one kid gets it, the rest will just be "Jack Bauer WHO?" "24 what?" etc. They WILL NOT get it!

Just start calling him "JB" early so that he gets used to that nickname and won't want to be called Jack, thus no one will call him that.

Just insist that he be called Jackson....My nephew has a son named Anthony and they will not let anyone call him Tony....
