i asked a question on what vocab to use here, and peeps give me the words 'FORETHOUGHT / FORSIGHT'.

pls explain the meaning here.. im not native so..

"you were late, but you had/took the ____ to take a taxi."

forethought > careful consideration of what will be necessary.

foresight > the application of care and attention to the likely outcome of something or to future needs.

It sees to me that forethought would fit more appropriately into your sentence.

A note on spelling: F-O-R-E-SI-G-H-T

Foresight (at least that's how we spell it in the US) would be the better word.

You were able to think or see ahead to what you would need. Perhaps your planned ride never showed up. This is forethought.

You thought ahead of time that it was a good thing to do. You could "see into the future," seeing that taking a taxi could probably take care of the late thing. Sorry. I'm not too good at explaining things sometimes.
