I am currently 35 weeks pregnant and i got a really bad cold when i was about 20 weeks pregnant. My doctor told me that during the first and second trimester, you are the greatest risk of harming your baby by taking over the counter medications (OTC) medications because at this stage the babys organs are developing.Medications can interfere with the development process. OTC medications can interfere during the second and third trimesters as well, and so it is very important that you check with your health practitioner before using any OTC (or other) medications.
Many cough and cold medications contain a combination of several types of medications, so make sure that you know what you are taking and that each ingredient is safe before use.
These are the kinds of words that you wanna see when you look at the medicines for a cold. The antihistamines chlorpheniramine, loratadine, doxylamine, brompheniramine, phenindamine, pheniramine, triprolidine, and diphenhydramine are considered low risk during pregnancy, but they can make you sleepy, especially doxylamine and diphenhydramine.

Robitussin is the only cold medicine that you can have. But during my first pregnancy my dr recommended a treatment that worked great and I have used it ever since. Tiger Balm. It is in the same section as the Icy hot and comes in a small jar like carmex. Before you go to bed rub alittle under your nose...its really strong so it doesn't take much it really helps with your nasal problems and breathing it in helps with a cough too. Since then they have come out with those Suda Care shower tablets. I also use those. Between the 2 you should feel better in a couple days and not have to worry about taking any meds. I'm now at the end of my second pregnancy. And my son is 2. Anytime I start to feel a head cold coming on I start this treatment and haven't been sick since!! I hope this helps. Feel better.

I am 6 weeks pregnant and just got over the worst cold in my life. The only thing the doctor said i could take is tylenol and sudafed, which he said i could take them but if i could do without then that is better. I took tyleno about twice and used home remedies the rest of the time. I mixed honey and fresh lemon juice and swallowed that every couple of hours to help with the sore throat, i took warm showers with vapor rub on my chest to get rid of the congestion. and drank alot of tea with lemon and honey.
I hope this helps alittle.

I'm 22 weeks pregnant and when I had a cold my OB told me that Tylenol (plain as in No "extra strength" or anything) and Benadryl were ok to take if I really felt like I needed it. I didn't take them, guilt I guess (lol). I found that the old remedies of a lot of water and a lot of rest really helped. Hope you feel better soon!

It depends a lot on your health conditions and your doctor's feelings. You can use a saline nasal spray to clear out your nose. I used zicam which hasn't been tested but they're all just fine! I would highly recommend calling up your doctor and describing all your symptoms including how it's affecting your sleeping and eating habits. They might give you Robitussin DM. It was a favorite of my Dr. when I was struggling with a really horrible cold and nothing helped.
Good luck.

They like you to stay away from most stuff. I have a very bad sinus problem and my doctor hasnt offered me much. Sudafed is just ok and should only be used it you really need it
I was told to drink alot of water, orange juice is also good
Might sound funny but my husband buys that TANG powder, mixes it with water and warms it up in the microwave. He said it is better than thera-flu anyday
Try it :)

Tylenol should be ok and for the rest I would say, drink fluids and orange juice, you can put a bit of mentholatum on your forehead and your chest, for your cough drink some milk with honey, it will losen the phlegm, even though milk seems to be phlegm producing it will still help and just rest in bed with a hot water bottle and a good book.

The best thing to take is pseudofed for a runny stuffy nose. If you have a fever plian ol tylenol will bring it down. But if you have a fever over 101.3 go to the doctor cause that can put you and the baby in health risk.

Regular sudafed (no sever cold formula or anything), regular musinex, and tylenol. DO NOT take huge doeses of vitamin C, it can be toxic to the fetus. Otherwise....SLEEP! Also, vick's vapor rub really helped me with congestion and is safe too. Good Luck!!

Tylenol cold or any other formula of tylenol is fine to take. If you are having severe nasal congestion then its ok to take sudafed. Good luck. These are what my dr told me to take when I was pregnant last winter.
