Been through this myself. I finally cashed the check at a local bank and kept the cash for myself. It didn't hurt our financial situation any because my husband wasn't expecting it.

Advise from my mom:

1. The most important thing you will ever do is choose a husband. Do so with great consideration
2. Never have children until your relationship is solid. And always have a skill you can fall back on. Marriage is not a lifetime meal ticket. Get an education, and plan to work -- perhaps for decades. Be sure you get paid well for it
3. Always have a secret stash of cash that is yours.. even if you know you will never need it.... (this one applies to you now... start your stash, hon...)

These words, these ideas made it possible for me to: Always have a job that paid well.... well enough that I got to retire at 48, (!!!!) hon, with no money problems...... Start your stash, and go back to school, too. One semester I carried 18 units, and worked full time... it didn't last forever, so you can do it too.....

What money? That's none of his business. My simple a*s sister gives up her paychecks but just wised up...this Mo Fo is spending money partying while shes at home pregnant. Come on, give me a f*cking break. Now she's opened her own account and he has not a clue. Do yourself a favor and buy you something pretty....9 West shoes always do the trick for me.

This is your husband right? Let him know that a relative has given you some fun money and you'd really like to spend it on whatever you like. You are both adults and he's not the dictator of the house. Now, if your bills are due and that money should really go to the home, I suggest you do the right thing and pay things that are due.

You don't have to explain anything. . . just tell him that it was a gift to you-for you. I had to stop doing that because for the past 8 years anything I had I gave it to my husband whether it was money, food -anything.

Well anyways, I secluded myself to him and my whole world was him and now that I have woken up and drove myself to complete insanity and depression - I don't do that anymore. You are going to have to start saving some money for yourself. Stop giving him your entire paycheck (it may be hard because of the amount of bills you have), but you are going to have to treat yourself. Sorry I went off on a tangent- just tell him and keep the money. I'm sure you deserve it.

Why does he have to know about the check? Go open your own checking or saving acct. or just cash it, which ever. It was a gift to YOU for YOU. I never shared my gift $$ with my now Xhusband. And I shouldn't have given so much of my paycheck to him either. Nor should I have put any other money's I received into our joint acct. The ahole blew it all and now I have no savings.

I feel that a husband and wife's money should be shared. There is really no "my money" and "his money" in a marriage. It just leads to problems. Tell him the truth and you both should decide what the money should be used for.

The first thing is lying to your husband is not a good thing, and may come back to haunt you. Why can you just tell him the truth about why you got the check and both of you go ouot and enjoy it
