My 76 y/o father who is otherwise healthy, exercises, eats well, was just diagnosed with blocked arteries, which they are contributing to the stressful factors in his life. Its easy to say, "let it roll off your back", but how do you actually do that?

As a Certified Hypnotist I can tell you that it is relatively easy - if you know how to do it. It doesn't require a great of anything, just practice focusing....the ability to realize that a lot of stress results from fear of something and that fears are usually unfounded....if you need further direction, let me know!

I believe exercise is a great stress reliever at any age. The type of exercise chosen is important too. Short bursts of gym stle activity may be less effective than a good long walk out in the country or a park.

It's also important to sort out the cause of the stress. Some people practically generate stress themselves because of poor early lifestyle habits often learnt from stressy parents and stessful home sitautions. Apart from that possibility there might be specific things that are stressing your father - such as anxiety about money or accommodation, relationships etc.

Some counselling might help with that.

He also might want to take steps to lower cholesterol naturally by eating oats and oat bran. Oats have a naturally relaxing effect on many people, promoting good sleep too

I think there is a misunderstanding with what caused his blocked arteries. I have never heard of stress causing blockage. That would be caused by his diet or his body making to much cholesterol. I think stress can cause high blood pressure. There are many ways to relieve stress, each person is different. For some a quiet location can help, there are breathing exercises that work too, anything that he would enjoy doing, golf, fishing, reading, all could help relieve stress.

EXERCISE!! It is the fountain of youth. Exercise is the single best thing we can do to improve our health. If you even exercise just a little bit you will slowly improve. You can find something that is do-able! It WILL help to relieve the stress. Elderly people can start with a very basic exercise and may even need to start out in a seated position!

Vent in front of a family member or friend who is willing to listen or you can vent infront of your pet.
But if your stress level is really high, you hit your pillow then vent then hit your pillow again it works because then you don't hit others
