If your current average is 65, and this is based on 80% of the total points, and then you take a zero on the final 20% exam, your final average would be 65*0.80 = 52. If, on the other hand, you did take the exam, any score higher than 65 would improve your average. If you scored 100, your average would go up to 65*0.80 + 100*0.20 = 72.

It depends on how much of a grade you have left to earn.

If the 20% is a final, you currently have a total of 65% of the 80% of the possible points. Let's say the total points for the year is 1000, so there's been a total possible 800 points awarded so far, of which you've earned 65%. That's .65 * 800, or 520 points. If you don't take the final, you won't get any more points, so you'd get 520 out of a possible 1000, or 52%.

I'd take the exam, if I were you.

If you are saying that you've attempted 80% of the graded work and passed 65% of it that means you have "banked" 52% of the possible points so if you make no attempt at the last 20% you end up with 52%.

For every 5% you earn on that last exam you can raise your score for the class by 1% so best case is 85%.

If I understand your question correctly, you are asking what your final grade will be if you currently have 65 and do not do the final exam which is worth 20% of your grade.

so...

65 represents 80% since you will not be doing the last 20%, or you can assume a 0 for that exam...

65 * 0.8 = 52 for a final mark.

Hope this helps! :)

If your current mark is 65% on 80% of the coursework, and you don't do (i.e., get 0%) on your remaining 20% exam, then your grade will be:

65% x 80% + 0% x 20%
= 52% + 0%
= 52%

65 x .80 = 52
0 x .20 = 0
52 + 0 = 52% for the quarter.
If you have a 1st quarter grade to add, then add it to the 65 and divide by 2 before you multiply by .80 and you'll have your grade.
