I've only got $60 because the organization I work for requires all interns to not work for a month, and I can't start to work again until next week. Problem is, tomorrow is my mother's birthday, and I can't afford a decent lunch place AND a nice gift. I'm 17 years old, and my dad is taking her out to dinner tonight, but stupid me has been blabbering how I was going to take her out! She SAYS she doesn't want me to spend any money on her, and keeps insisting, but I know she's just saying that. So, which option should I opt for? I want to take her to a DECENT lunch place *or* give her a nice gift (for the $60 I have). What do I do? Today's my day to either go shopping for her gift, or shopping for restaurants.

Go to the movies with her on you it's cheap and you could even pitch in for the popcorn and stuff , I know I would be flattered if my daughter took me to the movies alone with her.

Why not buy her a nice card, a few flowers, and give her handmade certificates with things such as: Upon receipt of this coupon ---- I will clean ____room when you want me to. I will answer the phone and keep everyone away while you take a nice long bubble bath. I will make supper once a week (or twice) so you won't have to and clean up the kitchen right away. When I have more money, I will take you out to lunch at the restaurant of your choice.
And whatever other nice things you can think of to do for your mother. These things might be things your mother will appreciate much more than a material gift or a lunch.

do you know how to cook? even something simple, and it doesn't necessarily have to be right on the day of her birthday. Make her a little certificate that promises you will make dinner and do the dishes and everything some night, as payback for all the dinners she made and cleaning up she did for you over the years. I bet she would like that better than you spending all your money. You can spend way less than $60 bucks and make a nice meal, and the effort says so much more than the price tag.

I think the lunch would be the better option for you, not only are you remembering her special day, but she will feel honored that you want to spend time with her. You could always buy her a single rose of her favorite color, or search for that perfect card and write a personal message inside. I think it is sweet of you to care so much about your mothers happiness.

buy her a small gift that could means for her, something like a doll printed "i love you mom" or something that could be put on her table that related to your mom or something what she likes, plus a bday card could be nice too. and say to her that you can't buy something expensive, but u're giving her this small gift that come from u're heart, coz u're willing to do this, "coz u're my mom." Im sure eventhough it's just less than $60, it could be printed in her heart forever. Buttt.. if you couldn't find any gift, yeah.. just go for not a formal lunch, but fun lunch.. between u and mom as a family. talk and laugh the whole day.. i think it's wonderful.

A couple of CDs with music from the 60s & 70s. DVD of the "Musical Nine" with Daniel Day Lewis, Kate Hudson, Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, Judy Drench and Sophia Loren is a true story and portrayed in 1965 in Italy. Gather pictures of her life and have it made in to a calendar... I loved mine! DVD of Yanni Voices live in concert.
