If people don't achieve the goals in time, we can reevaluate why, and how to help going forward. Why are some people against setting goals?

Bush doesn't want any timetables because he has no plans of removing the troops. The proof is in the fact that they are building several military bases in Iraq.

In order to have a time table we would have to know when the terrorists/Insurgents will be captured, Killed or give up. Since they will not cooperate a timetable is useless. In war you must be able to adjust to the new situations that arise which cannot be predicted. Any time table is just a goal which would not be a problem if the media and the democrats would not use the projected time table as fodder to attack the president and republicans. But whenever the time table needed to be adjusted it would be used as more reason not to be in Iraq instead of looking at the adjustment as a normal part of any good tragedy during wartime.

Hey sockpuppet and ricky t, if what you say is true why did the white house today warn the Taliban that the US was going to have on offensive maneuver in Afghanistan come this spring. Is it so that Bush's buddy OBL can get out of harms way?

That would "tie the presidents hands" to react to changing tactics of the goat herders. In truth it's makes Bush set something down in concrete which he can get blamed for later. Like it matters now.

This is not a job that you set up your goals. We have objectives that we are trying to achieve. So you call them goals, we in the military call them military objectives. We have hard targets and soft targets. If we can eliminate our hard targets, then we reached our objective, now is that a goal, I guess it is. You do not know the 1st thing that is going on over here, but thanks for your support!

Because they're morons.

We need to establish goals that can be reached in a reasonable deadline, and if they are not met, then the Administration will face severe consequences.

A timetable tells the enemy "we just have to hold out and keep this going till X date when the americans leave".

There is no better encouragement to the enemy than knowing you are going to leave, no matter what state you leave in.
