How did Dirk Nowitzki, and especially Steve Nash, not get voted in as a starter? They are the best players on the two best teams in the league, and Nash is on his way to his third straight MVP. What if the tables were turned, and all the starters were white, and LeBron, Kobe, Shaq, and D-Wade were not voted in? There'd be a public outcry claiming the NBA is a racist league.

Your question is a classic two part-er.

The first part is logical and a open to debate. The second part is strange and doesn't deserve much of a response...but I can't resist.

I agree that Nowitzki & Nash are great players and deserve serious consideration to be starters in the All-Star game. Steve Nash may well win a third straight MVP......he is a superstar.

However...... your racial question just leaves me (nearly) speechless. Do you seriously believe that in 2007 race has anything to do with All -Star balloting? There might be some misplaced 'anti-foreigner' bias....although just how their non-American roots might effect their hoops skills is beyond me.

Shaquille does not belong in the starting line-up because of his production this year....even though he is one of the greatest big men in NBA history.....and even though he has been out with an injury. (I'll bet he will say as much very soon.)
His race doesn't come into it.

When the public votes for all stars.....I believe we can trust that a vast majority are voting based on skills. Some surely vote for 'their team'....others for 'their favorite'.....but that is all part of being a sports fan. To suggest that racial bias is involved shows that you may , just may, be stuck in the 1970's. Let us all hope that in this 21st Century we can get beyond race....and just consider talent & character.

(Making an All-Star team is a true honor.....All Star games themselves....in all sports...are a waste of time. But that is a subject for another debate.)

Looking at the voting results, being elected to start is just as much of a joke as being left off. Give the vote to the players and coaches.

the fans are the determining factor and skills take a back seat to popularity and appeal....the game is more of an exhibition than a competition and many deserving players get selected to the team anyway...i think its wrong to make a bigger social issue out of it

no longer in user-friendly terms do I consider Tuna, yet i decide to characteristic the difficulty of RETALIATION. It seems such as you your self are implying that green have been given hit because of the fact the late hit. So the Rangers went after somebody enormous to get returned on the Capitals. so as that's all of the greater reason to characteristic to the penalty, that's like the third guy interior the combat.

no surprise nash didn't start. he's horrible in all star games and doesn't add any excitment in the Showcase game.

last year they still gave him the most run time and he's probably the reason the west lost

All-Star game gives the FANS what they want. That is why the people get to choose who they want to see play.
