It is because it is all through call centers and most of them are not in the states. Did you know that if you buy a dell computer that is personal you get tech support out of the states, if you buy a business computer you get tech support from the states. Just a little info I thought was helpful, I would not buy one anyhow, but for some that support is important. And I have to say it is very aggravating to me that when I call anything it seems they are not from this country, It is because it is cheaper to do it out of the states, seems the government is not tapped into that type of labor. Anyhow great question and I agree it is ANNOYING!

Almost all tech support and starting programming jobs are outsourced now days.
You can request someone else but you should ask it of a supervisor or the agent might just dump you to the back of the same call cue.
A Canadian doing tech support.

Why is it? Tech support hirers do not discriminate, in hiring, due to nationality: they hire based on ability and knowledge. May you ask for someone else? It depends upon the company with whom you're dealing: if you're paying a hefty price for tech support (e.g., as you do with say Microsoft or Symantec or Adobe, per call) then you should darn well *insist* on it: try to get your support via online chat.

I know what you mean. Ask to speak to someone else if you can't understand them. They are there to help you and they should be catering to you, if they get offended ask to talk to their supervisor (you should have no problems then).

Well, you can always do that.
Personally, I think our energies are better spent at telling our Members of Parliament or Congress people to keep more jobs at home rather than sending them abroad.

outsourcing jobs for cheaper labor is the wave of the future. why pay an american minimum wage to answer a phone when an educated member of the 3rd wold will do it for half the wages and double the work load. it gets annoying but usualy the service is better in the end.

You can thank greedy corporate America for that! By having other countries do their calling, they dont have to abide by the minimum wage law!
