My teenage daughter has been coming home late from school for the last couple of weeks, and I asked her what she has been doing. She told me that she has been hanging out with the marching band kids and playing the skin flute. What is a skin flute? I asked her if I could watch her play, and she said no because I would be mad. why would I be mad at her playing an instument?

I am sorry to say it doesn't seem like your daughter is literally playing an instrument, i do not know her so i can not judge but she may be twisting the truth and speaking 'in code'. Perhaps she is not in a marching band but hanging out with friends (maybe boys).
Ask her what has been going on in her life recently, do not be too pushy and do not expect her to pour her soul out to you straight away. It takes time to get through to teeneagers.
