Marriages are not only meant for copulation and producing children. Whole gamut of human experience leaves a mark of marriage; success and failure, frustration and happiness- all hinge one or the other way on marriage. One enters into matrimonial alliance with all the best intentions taking oath under a canopy in the name of God. And lo and behold! It turns out to be sour one in nearly 50% of the cases. With this rate of success and failure, the best way of philosophizing the whole episode would be to say that marriages are arranged in heaven. It is a way of saying that there is something beyond our control and destiny does play a role, however, dashing one may be.

I think eventually, yes they will. Prop 8 with this current court? I'm afraid not. I watched the three hour oral arguments yesterday. The court doesn't seem too pleased with the plaintiff's arguments (and one justice who in May voted to overturn the statutory ban on gay marriage on grounds of equal protection, yesterday was arguing essentially that civil unions are sufficient). The fact that we're in completely uncharted judicial territory here also doesn't help. The CA supreme court is a rather prudent court. The May 2008 ruling that made same-sex marriage legal only passed with the vote of one justice. With Justice Kannard now believing that civil unions grant "all the substantive rights of marriage", I don't think the plaintiffs will have the minimum of 4 justices to overturn proposition 8. She's being rather irrational if you ask me, and I find it telling that she didn't even bother answering Mr. Morocco's hypothetical question of what she would think if California voters ratified an amendment saying that only men can be California Supreme Court justices, and that women, while having "all the same substantive rights" will be called "court counselors". I'm worried about the precedence set by this court if they were to uphold proposition 8. Even the counsel for the detractors (Mr. Ken Starr) explicitly stated that Californians do, and should have the ability to seize the rights of any suspect class, anytime they wish, no matter how crude, barbaric, inhumane, irrational, or irresponsible as long as it's done through a constitutional amendment. I think every Californian should watch the oral arguments and hear this creep for themselves, and this should make all of us Californians pause and think twice about our referendum process. It's so *frivolously* executed that our state, though less than 200 years old, has OVER 500 AMENDMENTS TO OUR CONSTITUTION while the nation, 231 years old, has only 27! We might as well have our constitution written on a chalk board! PS: The quote you provided is *not* from the US Supreme Court case "Loving V. Virginia". It's from the presiding judge in Loving's *conviction* of miscegenation in "Perry Loving V. State", which along with "The Racial Integrity Act of 1924" was overturn *in* "Loving V. Virginia". I know you love it when I nit-pick :-p

this could be true. since this is a life time issue do your home work thouroughly. known your own gunas and find someone who will fit that [even if you are forced into matrimony]. also check an astroleger.also in most traditional societies the families must like one another. Actually the present generation both men and women are fun loving, so marraige may actually be made in heaven.
I am sure about the karma and punishment bit, but choices are always in our hands.
dont go into marraige thinking it is going to be hell, it may be best thing that happened to you.
GOOD LUCK

Marriages are not made in heaven. Our God desires us to be wise and make good decisions. I just can't see him assigning us a nightmare partner. I used my own will and choose a selfish man. I paid the price.
Sins? Now that is scary. If we marry or have marriage problems because of our sins then no one would ever have a sucessful marriage.

That's nonsense. Marriage is a joy, not a punishment, and anyone who says it isn't shouldn't be or stay married. People meet, if you stay home your chances of meeting someone are slim. Destiny helps those who help themselves. Unless you live in a country where arranged marriages are the only way, and if you do, it may not be a marriage of the heart, but one in which your feelings may not be taken into account at all. In which case you can only make the best of it.

If Y believe in heaven surely also in God. Though we don't view God but question for non- existence of God by many had never got positive reply and therefore it is always accepted that God does exist. God created every thing which we see. You know when a plat (grass and big plants) grows to its' complete it is matured to produce its' own kind. Same thing is with human being also. Difference is that the plats can't deviate from the natural system of its' progression, maturity and production where as human- bejng may deviate and that's what our ancestors had deviated to bring better and the best results in the natural system of production, progression and maturity for all natural creations including human-beings. Today what we live ad enjoy is the result of civilised society of which family is the first literate deviation by human-beings by adopting settled marriage by the elder members in the family. It had been researched that at the age of marriage human-beings are matured only naturally and not socially and entering into marital relation, on their own wouldn't bring future stability for them as well as for society.
In my opinion marriages must be settled by elders in the family and also it is true that parents never think bad of their child.

you should ask this in R&S catagory
whatever the way you get together God is going to be the glue that holds you together - if your relationship with Him is strong your relationship with your spose will be strong as well - being forced together has nothing to do with sin or punishment

If you are forced into marriage, it means you give your parents wishes priority over your own.
