my fashion rules to throw away something are as follows:
#1 does it still fit? If not donate to charity or give to friend.
#2 is it still fashionable? If it isn't then donate to charity
#3 is it in good condition? i.e. no holes rips etc.? toss if it is damaged or mend/repair if possible
#4 have I worn it in the last 1-2 years? If i haven't, then donate to charity or give away.
These rules apply for everyting in my wardrobe, including shoes, bags, clothing, etc.

As someone else said, if you have not worn them in 2 years then get rid of them and make room in your closet. Don't throw them away. Give them to Goodwill, a church or some other tax deductable organization. Get a receipt and prepare an itimized list and value of what you gave away. You can deduct this from your taxes, plus you help others. I believe there is a new rule that says any "item" over $250 must be appraised. The donations you make to your church are also deductable. If you give $100 a week to the collection plate then you can deduct $5,200 a year. Receipts are not required for weekly church donations. Check with your CPA or the Internet.

for caual clothes, if you havn't worn it in a year, you won't need it. just throw it out. It won't be in style much longer. A few signiture pices can be kept for many years.... like chanel handbas and louis vutton luggage. But if youhavn't worn that T-shirt since last march, you don't need it anymore. Formal wear can be kept longer as there are fewer occasions to wear it.

Well, i would say that for warm weather clothes, if you havn't worn them in a year. For cool- weather clothes if you havn't worn them in two years. however, please don't throw your clothes away! There are plenty of people around the globe and right here in the US that can barely afford clothing, and won't mind wearing something "out of style" especially if it's in good condition. Please, instead of throwing away your clothes give them to a charity like Goodwill, the Salvation Army, kiwanis, or etc...

When the bottom of your shoes are loose, when they become to dirty to clean, for clothes if they have holes, faded, stains that cannot be removed, when they can't fit, or if you overcumulated so much and don't have room then its time to throw it out.

Remember that fashion always comes around! If it looks great on you, it doesn't look overworn, and you wear it regularly, keep it! If it's been sitting in your closet for two years or more and you haven't though about it, give it away. Shoes I keep longer because they seem to rotate through fashion cycles much quicker (i.e. stacked wedges have been in for two seasons now.)

Clothes do have an expiration date. If you haven't worn it in a year or more, throw it out, consign it (if it's in very good condition or better), or give it to charity.

Years ago, someone asked " Dear Abby" that. Her answer: If you haven't worn it or used it in two years, out it goes. So, that's my rule of thumb, except for really good shoes.
