@ 35 is it really a benefit or something else.

It sounds like people are reacting to the label here. You might have done better if you had described the relationship.

I'm 46, a widow and "dating around". I have no intention of marrying ever again and don't want the commitment of one steady guy for anything long term.

When it comes to sexual matters I would say that you are either in a caring, trusting and valuable type of situation or you have nothing.

People are pretty hung up on the monogamy of the whole thing. And they also often judge anyone who is being intimate without a long term plan. But I think sex can be very affirming and very healthy between two people who know and care for one another even if they don't want to be exclusive. For me to consider it I must have trust and be trusted, have respect and receive it and be allowed to be whoever I am.

It is a relationship no matter what else it is but it just doesn't have to be a committed one in my book.

So I would say that if it's mature and you enjoy it, don't stick a label on it or worry about what others think. Just keep an eye on your emotions and on hers and enjoy each other.

Usually something else. Sex is only one part of a happy relationship so it goes nowhere serious unless there is a lot more to the relationship and then marriage would be in the picture.

don't let other people judge you. if that's how you want to live your life, then go for it as long as you are comfortable with it. just make sure you are being careful because you are probably the only friend receiving the benefits package.

it sounds VERY shallow at best when you label it that

YOu should be really good friends and love each other VERY much or no "benefits" I think

cuz then life has no meaning

I think you mean sex by benefits, not health insurance and stuff

It could be either. Lots of my thirty something friends prefer to have "f*ckbuddies" instead of relationships. I see the advantages.

That depends on the intention of both friends.

I guess I'm getting too old for that now. Too much possible weird drama.
