If you do not yet have children, would you NOT have them due to the current state of the country and the world?

If you do have children, do you feel bad for what they are going to inherate?

I never wanted to have kids for the simple fact that the world is getting overpopulated and I didn't want to subject my children to what is coming. Surprise surprise...I did have one...but I really feel bad for what we are leaving our children in this country (the US) and the world.

Well my son was a big and I mean BIG surprise as I was told by 3 different doctors that I could not have children.

I know that children are supposed to be "the future" but we have to leave them something to work with.

And another note...aren't those that are running this train wreck someone elses children that were at one time "the future"??

"children have always been the hope of the future"

this is true, however, every generation, those hopes are crushed because those children grow up into today's politicians and leaders. it's an unfortunate cycle that cannot be changed, so even though i really want to be a father, i'm really scared to bring children into this ugly world. if i do end up having children, it would be my job to protect them from this world as much as i can. sadly, that job is getting more and more difficult every day.

oh and if u want to get even more depressed about the world we live in, watch al gore's documentary "an inconvenient truth"... it'll REALLY put things into perspective for u and it'll show you just about how much time we have left on this earth if we continue living the way we do. trust me, it is nowhere near as long as u think...

Its funny I came across this question today, because i was thinking about the same thing yesterday. I am a 21 year old college student from massachusetts and I've been thinking about whether I would have children soon, later, or if at all.

I came across the same question:

"Would I feel guilty?"

I couldn't answer it. On one hand children are the future solutions to our current and future problems, and on the other hand I wouldn't want my child or children to inherit inevitable struggle. The thing is that it is NOT inevitable.

After thinking about this at length I decided that I would have a child because you can make the choice to raise an educated child that could make a difference in our worlds problamatic future.

You said you had a child, congradulations, if you are worried abotu the world problems your child will inherit you should go to lengths in order to teach your child how important energy conservation and racial and faith acceptance are to the world.

I took responsibility for my actions when I was young, so I never had any then. After I hit my 30's I developed 2 different forms of arthritis, so I never wished to take the chance my child would be afflicted with the same problems. I am glad with the current state the world is in, that I have not had children.

If the world is ever going to get any better....who is to do it? Our children, of course.

My husband and I tried to raise our children to be responsible, health-conscience, and moral-thinking. We also tried to impart an understanding of how important stewardship of our Earth is.

NOT having children isn't the answer, that would be turning away from the problem. Having children with the ability and desire to make positive change is the answer we see.

We hope we did well. Time will tell.

I would have children. Even if our world is totally screwed up, things aren't going to change if someone doesn't change them, and many problems aren't going to be solved in my lifetime, so obviously there needs to be someone after I die to continue my work.

Not having children because of the state of the world around you is akin to giving up once and for all. It's saying, "Things are so bad, I don't think they can ever be fixed. I'd rather not have my family exist than bring them up in this world, because there's no way things will get better for them."

Far too pessimistic for my taste.

There is two ways to look at things. Doomsday or Better tomorrow. Your attitude will pass on through your son. Is that the way you want him to live? Doomsday? I have 3 kids of my own and 3 step. I am glad to have them and glad that we live in America. I wouldn't give up my kids for anything and I am glad we do live in America. The world has always had war. I don't dwell on it. I live each day as best I can and Thank God for what I have.

I don't want my children to have a hard life, of course, but they add joy and hope to my life, and I know they will put their efforts to making the world a better place. They may not succeed, but my world was made better just by their being here.

I am very glad that I did not have children and it was due to careful planning. I don't like children and they are too expensive, so if I had messed up and had any, I would probably have ended up on Welfare.

I have two children, No I do not feel bad for having them. What I do feel bad about is the children out there that have parents who don't take care of them, abuse them, don't want them, wish they weren't born, and don't try raising them they old way. Just because this is the tweny first century not the seventys', eightys', or ninetys', it doesn't mean we cannot raise our children the way our parents raised us or our parents parents raised them. As for over population, I don't quite understand where you are getting that information. There are just as many deaths as there are births'. Actually, I here about more deaths' than I do births'. There are so many diseases out there that killing us that I don't see how we could possibly bring in that many lives.
