there is a film out now with a load of characters she'll know from TV shows probably, my kid sister was talking about it a while ago. it was called 'aqua' something, about a mermaid but in pre-teen form. it has that singer Jojo in it, and that's all i know
have fun with your niece

Aquamarine!!!!!! that was it lol. no idea if it's any good but, there you go, oh and those people saying High School Musical are right, but I'm guessing if she's anything like the 11 year olds I know, she's seen it a million times already

How about Aquamarine? Its not like Nanny McPhee, but it is a really good film for young girls. I got it out the other day for my 10 and a half year old cousin and she loved it. I didnt hear a single peep out of her the whole time it was on.

High school musical is very good for kids. If you get the DVD with the bonus features on she can also watch the film and when certain songs come up she can sing along with them.

I have a 10 year old and she loves High School Musical and Hannah Montana. Basically any of the "Tweener" stuff from the Disney Channel.

You should check out Whale Rider.
It's about a young girl who "inherits" the talent to speak to whales. In her culture, it is a symbol of being a tribe leader but it was meant for males, not females, and her grandfather has a difficult time accepting her as being the Leader, but in the end he does and is very proud of her.
Great movie. No violence, no nudity, no foul language.

Uptown girls (it might be a 12 but I think it's a PG and it's not that bad for a 11 year old in that respect.
She'll probably prefer it if she's quite girly

She's the Man - was funny for all of us to watch together. Ella
Enchanted was good as well.
Or you could go the Hilary Duff or Lindsay route.
Difficult age you don't want anything too mature or too babyish.
