Because medicine is an art, not a science. Malpractice is entirely different.

Doctors ARE held accountable for their mistakes. They can be sued for malpractice. But like any other service provider - even your garage mechanic - they can only do their best, based on the best knowledge available and the skills their science gives them. They are not magicians or miracle-workers, but should be respected as the generally honest and skilled craftsmen they usually are. Yet even at best the result of their work is always going to be a bit unpredictable because every human being is different in the way he reacts to treatments. Remember, medicine is an art as well as a science. But if a doctor does not do his best, and causes suffering that could have been avoided, then he should be held accountable for incompetence, and there are means available to do so, both by other doctors and their society, and by legal action.

Of course they are!!!! You need to be accountable when it comes to find a good doctor....if you are unsure of a doctors decision, get a second opinion!!!!! AND ASK QUESTIONS before you have ANYTHING done. Get the book "Healthcare for Less" and this may help you. If you feel the doctor "wronged you", gather the proof and report them immediately.
