With all the talk about universal healthcare. To me even having healthcare readily available still comes with a great amount of personal responsibility. I have insurance, but I only go to the doctor when I have to. Some people seem to like to go for any stuffy or runny nose. So can we really trust the people who have not been responsible so far with themselves to make good judgements about when to go to the doctor with our tax monies?

I don't think that this is going to fly anyway.

Lower income people, those that would be infavor, tend not to vote.

Those that are more responsible tend to vote. You know those with personal responsibility and health insurance. It would never get voted for. Those with health insurance would NEVER vote for a reduction in the quality and an increase intheir taxes.

It's all a bunch of hoolah the dems started.

To me, your question is more about personal responsibilty than health care. We can ask the same of worker's compensation, Social Security disability, or unemployment.
Since we can't legislate personal choice, and some programs are a vital and real need in our society, we do what we can to prevent abuse by those who would misuse the systems, and do our best to provide services for those who need them.

As an aside, do we often really trust those we put in office to oversee the use of our tax dollars, because most polls say we don't. If we don't trust the overseers, isn't that more of a problem?

thats a bad part of universal health care. in countries that have it you go on a list to get an mri. here you dont. but thats becasue so many peope that need one arent getting them. so would you rather have to wait in line bc so many people that need them are getting them? or do it immediately because poor people cant afford it?
